‘Heels’ is the third single from my ’12 Songs’ project where I’m releasing a new song at 12pm on the 12th of every month for 12 months.
I got the idea for this song walking in the El Zapillo neighbourhood in Almeria last year. I saw two girls in front of me, around 14/15 years old, trying to walk in high heels and they were not finding it easy as it was possibly their first time. They were helping each other balance and this image just really struck me, so I stopped to write some words and ideas to remember this moment as I knew it would become a song at some point.
The ’12 Songs’ project is not a traditional album with one sound, but a collection of songs with very different styles. The first two singles have covered chill-out and indie rock, whereas ‘Heels’ blends flamenco rhythms and ambient pop.
Although the song was inspired by high heels, it isn’t really about that, but about love and friendships. For example, when I saw those girls that time, I could also see them in 50-60 years’ time still helping each other through the streets of life walking in their metaphorical heels.

‘Heels’ (Tacones) es el tercer sencillo de mi proyecto que se llama ’12 Songs’ (12 Canciones) cuando lanzo una nueva canción a las 12H del 12 de cada mes para 12 meses.
Me vino la idea caminando por la calle en El Zapillo en Almería ciudad el año pasado. En frente de mi, vi a dos chicas de sobre 14/15 años que estaban intentando a caminar en tacones y no lo estaban encontrando fácil porque quizá era su primera vez. Estaban ayudándose mantener el equilibrio y esta imagen me golpeó, pues me paré para escribir palabras e ideas para recordar a este momento porque supe que se convertiría en una canción en algún momento.
El proyecto ’12 Canciones’ no es un álbum tradicional con un sonido, sino una colección de canciones con estilos diferentes. Los primeros dos sencillos incluyeron chill-out y indie rock, mientras ‘Heels’ mezcla ritmos de flamenco con pop ambiental.
Mientras era inspirado por tacones, el tema de esta canción de hecho no es nada que ver con tacones, sino amor y amistades. Por ejemplo, cuando vi a esas chicas, podía velas también en 50-60 años todavía ayudándose por las calles de la vida en sus tacones metafóricos.
